Terms of service
This is a placeholder document. The legal text will be reviewed and finalized before public launch. If you have questions about how Signal handles your data or operates, please contact us at hola@signallanguagestudio.coop.
These are the terms under which Signal Language Studio teaches you English. We've tried to write them the way we'd want them written if we were on the other side of the page: short, specific, and honest about what's promised and what isn't.
Who Signal is
Signal Language Studio is a workers' cooperative, founded by certified English teachers based in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. The cooperative operates under a founding-charter agreement signed by its members. Our legal entity, registered office, and tax identification will be listed in the final version of this document.
What we offer
Live online English classes, taught by our teacher-members, in small group format (up to twelve students). Courses run in two semesters a year, March to June and July to November. Classes are billed by the semester or by the month, in your local currency, and there's no commitment beyond the period you've paid for. The price includes the agreed number of classes, your teacher's office hours over WhatsApp, and access to the recorded library for your level.
Schedules, currency, payment methods, and class formats are confirmed at enrollment and in your account dashboard.
What we expect from you
Three things, all reasonable: show up to the classes you've booked (or let your teacher know in advance if you can't), pay your monthly invoice on time, and treat your teachers and classmates with basic respect. Group classes work because everyone in the room turns up willing to speak; persistent no-shows or disruptive behaviour are grounds for us, in rare cases, to end your enrollment.
Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel any month, from your account dashboard or by writing to hola@signallanguagestudio.coop. There is no cancellation fee, no minimum term, and no early-exit penalty. If you cancel partway through a month you've already paid for, you keep access until that month ends.
Unused classes do not expire while your subscription is active: they roll over from one month to the next inside the same enrollment. They are not refundable in cash and they do not transfer to another person. If you cancel, any unused classes from that month are forfeited.
Class recordings
Group classes are recorded so that students who miss a session can catch up, and so we can build a library of worked examples by level. Recordings are stored on our classroom video provider, accessible to students enrolled in that level for the duration of their subscription. We don't share recordings outside of enrolled students, and we don't use them for marketing without explicit, separate consent from everyone visible in the recording.
Teacher reassignment
One of the things we promise is teacher continuity. Most classes are taught in rotation by the same two teachers throughout the year, and some by one; in the great majority of cases the teachers in your first month are the same teachers a year later. That's a feature of the cooperative model, not an accident.
We do, however, reserve the right to reassign you to another teacher in three situations: your teacher takes extended sick leave, your teacher leaves the cooperative, or the schedule you originally agreed on becomes unworkable for both of you. In any of those cases, we'll talk to you first, offer alternatives, and never simply swap you without notice.
Liability and dispute resolution
Signal provides language teaching, not certification (unless you're enrolled in a specific Cambridge prep track that says otherwise). We don't guarantee specific exam scores or fluency outcomes; we guarantee qualified teachers, consistent classes, and an honest report on your progress.
If something goes wrong, please write to us first: most things are resolved by a short conversation. If we can't resolve a dispute that way, the parties agree to mediation before any formal proceeding. Failing that, the courts of the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, have jurisdiction, with the laws of the Argentine Republic applying, except where the consumer protection law of your country of residence grants you stronger rights, in which case that law applies.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we'll write to you by email at least 30 days before the new terms apply, and the change won't apply to a month you've already paid for. Minor edits (typos, clarifications, updated contact details) are made without notice and the updated date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
