Privacy notice
This is a placeholder document. The legal text will be reviewed and finalized before public launch. If you have questions about how Signal handles your data or operates, please contact us at hola@signallanguagestudio.coop.
This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect when you take a level test, book a trial, or enroll in classes with Signal, and what we do with it. We try to keep it short because the rules we follow are not complicated: we only collect what we need to teach you, and we don't share it with anyone who doesn't need to see it.
What data we collect
When you book a level test or enroll, we ask for your name, email, and WhatsApp number with country code. If you become a student, we also store class records (attendance, level, lesson notes your teacher writes for you) and your billing details. Payment information itself (card numbers, PIX keys, Mercado Pago tokens) is handled by our payment processor in your country and never stored on our servers.
We also collect the basic technical data your browser sends on any website: IP address, browser type, and pages visited, in aggregate, so we can tell whether the site is working.
How we use it
Your contact details are used to schedule classes, send you the link to your video room, bill you each month, and write to you when something practical happens (a teacher running late, a quarterly progress note from your teacher, a billing receipt).
Occasionally, no more than once a month, we send a short product email when something at the studio changes (a new program, a new teacher, a price update in your currency). You can opt out of those at any time and still receive the operational ones.
Who we share it with
Three categories of provider, each with a narrow job:
- Payment processors, per country: Mercado Pago and local bank rails in Argentina and Uruguay, PIX and card processors in Brazil. They see what they need to charge you and issue a receipt, nothing else.
- Our classroom video provider, used to host live classes and store group-class recordings.
- Email and WhatsApp delivery providers, so messages reach you.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not pass it to third parties for purposes unrelated to teaching you.
How long we keep it
While your account is active, we keep your data for as long as you're a student. After you cancel, we keep your class records and billing history for 24 months, in case you come back or need a receipt for tax purposes, and then we delete them. Recorded group classes attached to a level you took remain in our library while that level is taught; your individual attendance and notes are deleted with your account.
Your rights
You can ask us, at any time, to show you the data we hold about you, export it in a readable format, correct it, or delete it. These rights are covered by the laws that apply to you: Argentina's Ley 25.326 (Protección de Datos Personales), Uruguay's Ley 18.331, and Brazil's Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD, Lei 13.709/2018). Whichever applies to where you live, the practical answer is the same: write to us and we'll respond within 15 working days.
Children's data
Signal teaches adults. We don't enroll students under 13 in any program. Teen students aged 13 to 17 may enroll only with a parent or guardian's written consent, and the guardian's contact is held alongside the student's account. If you believe a minor has signed up on their own, please write to us and we'll remove the account.
How to contact us
For any data question, including access, export, or deletion requests: hola@signallanguagestudio.coop. You can also reach us on WhatsApp at the numbers in the footer. We try to reply within two working days, and we always reply within 15.
